We want you, the patient, to be aware of all the support Hudson Valley Hematology Oncology Associates has to offer you.  Before starting chemotherapy, we suggest that you take care of your basic health needs.  If time permits, we ask that you visit the dentist and have your teeth cleaned.

At  Hudson Valley Hematology Oncology Associates, we feel it is very important that a relative or friend accompany you to your chemotherapy sessions.  Emotional support is important as you go through this process. If you require additional support, we have many support groups to assist you during this time. Your nurse can assist you and refer you to a few support groups. As you begin your therapy, every person experiences chemotherapy differently. Many patients feel fine but some have reactions between 6 to 48 hours after treatment.  We have many treatments to assist you in dealing with side effects.

You may discuss these options with your physician or nurse. If you have questions or concerns, you may call the office that you are seen in during regular business hours and our highly trained staff will assist you or take a message to have your nurse or physician call you back. If you have an urgent call and it is at night, please call the usual office number and our answering service will take your message and deliver it to the on call physician. We have 24 hour, 7 day a week coverage.

Please make sure that you can receive phone calls from a blocked or restricted telephone number. Please know your doctors name, your type of cancer/disorder, the name of medications you are taking and your pharmacy’s phone number.  It is important that you are prepared.  Please remember we are here to make this time less difficult for you.  Please call us with any questions or concerns.
